Business Improvement Techniques (BIT) NVQ Level 3

Company

Ibstock takes its name from its original base in the village of Ibstock in Leicestershire, where the Company headquarters is still situated.  In its early years the trading emphasis changed from coal to manufacture of brick at its original Leicestershire base. Currently Ibstock is the primary UK manufacturer of facing bricks and special shapes in the UK with 20 operational sites.

As market leader in the UK, Ibstock is well-placed in the market and continuous investment in manufacturing equipment and people will ensure that it will prosper for many years to come.

Issues

In 2007 Ibstock started working with the Ceramic Industry Forum (CIF).  Ibstock wanted a recognized CI qualification that complimented their existing Total Productive Manufacturing (TPM) Program, to verify the knowledge and understanding of TPM with key individuals throughout the business.  They used BIT to help introduce new tools and techniques into their existing TPM toolbox and believed it supported their company held aim of creating forward thinking factories.

CIF Support

CIF offered the BIT NVQ as a way of supporting these business goals.

Since 2007 Ibstock have taken 50 key individuals from several factories through BIT NVQ Level 3.

Benefits

There have been many improvements across the sites driven through the Business Improvement Techniques activities, from improving the quality on a factory through focused problem solving activities, 5S improvements driving safety and efficiency improvements to introducing new improvement tools to improve and sustain productivity and safety.
